This 2-day course is ideal for professionals that inspect buildings for moisture and mold damage that results from it. Students will learn proper inspection and documentation of projects, collecting data such as moisture content readings and thermal images and how to collect proper environmental microbiology samples for materials, surfaces and air. Written protocols are always a big challenge since there is little guidance for what should be included to make the project more comprehensive and to reduce the liability for the contractor. Students will work through several case scenarios and provide written recommendations including sampling plans. The course will also focus on data interpretation of laboratory results to make better decisions in project recommendations for remediation or for determining successful verification. Students will be studying the IESO and AIHA guidelines for sample collection for both mold and bacteria that can be present in microbial contaminated buildings due to moisture and sewage back flows.
